E261 machine taps for metric coarse threads are a member of the “Shark line” family from Dormer. All “Shark line” taps have a colored ring on the shank to let you know which material the tap should be used to cut. The E261 has a red ring which means it is best used to create threads in high alloy steels like tool steels. The taps conform to the German Institute for Standardization and are manufactured from powder metal High Speed cobalt for longer tool life and better performance. The titanium aluminium nitride coating further improves performance when threading harder materials and improves the service life of the tool. With a spiral flute design for threading blind holes, the E261 “Red Shark” tap is available in sizes from M3 to M20.
