One of a number of taps in Dormer’s “Shark line” range – E240 taps have a color coded ring on the shank to indicate which material they should be used to cut. In this case, the blue ring lets you know E240 taps are for cutting threads in stainless steel. They have a steam tempered finish which helps prevent workpiece material from sticking to the cutting edge of the tool, so you get a more accurate thread. They are manufactured from powder metal High Speed cobalt to improve performance and extend tool life, and conform to the German Institute for Standardization. E240 taps create metric coarse threads and have a spiral point design which makes them suitable for threading pre-drilled through holes (holes which go all the way through the workpiece).
