The bright finish prevents workpiece material from sticking to the cutting edges of the tool to give a more accurate and cleaner finish to the thread. With a gun nosed geometry you get further improvement in performance with the chips directed away from the cutting edges of the tool. F140 machine dies create external, accurate BSW screw threads to medium fit tolerance.
